His language was so proficient that he did not need any ESL classes, and his score on a reading and comprehension test that same year was nearly perfect. As for me, I soon began volunteering at the Museum of Science and was able to find a very good job. Besides the language, Laura introduced us to the New England culture and environment, which is very important for families starting from scratch in a new country and trying to navigate an unfamiliar way of life. Her knowledge of other cultures and her understanding of the differences among them is extremely helpful.
